Nudity And Nude Scenes In Movies An

This group is for all those who love seeing nudity on film or TV, either seeing actors and actresses naked or group scenes of nudity. There is often a sexual component to much film nudity. This is about the nudity and body exposure or natural expression of nudity, rather than the sexual intent. It's for a discussion on how nudity in films might have influenced their own views on the naked...

Surprising Nude Scene

Return to Discussions

Have you ever been watching a film or television series where a nude scene shows up and kind of takes you by surprise? Or have you been watching something and an actor you never expected to see nude shows up in a scene? I am just trying to think of some and a couple come to mind. Sir John Gielgud is briefly nude as a British Jew sent to a death camp in The Winds of War. Mel Gibson has that brief skinnydipping scene in Gallipoli. I love that the men are nude in that scene as the bullets rain down on them under water. Their human vulnerability and the horror of war is given more power by them being naked. It's so interesting that we don't see Janet Leigh completely nude in the Psycho shower scene, yet we know she's nude and the shower and suggestion of nudity is highly effective even without total exposure.

The latest Emma movie contains an unexpected nude scene involving one of the main characters. It's great to see nudity becoming more normalised in mainstream movies.

We saw Emma at the weekend and both thought Knightley looked pretty good naked. I'm sure Jane Austen would have approved!

When I saw Blue Lagoon I was 13 and went to the movies with sex in mind... ;-) Then it was the first time in life that I realized nudity wasn't about sex, it was a natural thing. I didn't masturbate (as usual), rather took a shower and went to bed to sleep naked.

Yes. Spartacus was great and it had lots of nudity. It is one of the first series we discussed on here when the group got started. There are quite a few comments in one of the other topics in this group. I just reread them and tbey are interesting. You'll probably enjoy them. I had forgotten that it was originally on Starz, as is now Outlander and both have a fair amount of nudity. Thank you Starz! Keep up the nudity!

RE:Surprising Nude Scene

I never understood the skinny dipping scene at the opening of polyanna. Why would a movie about a girl start off with a picture or a naked boy's butt and all of the boys skinny dipping together? That scene fits with the entire opening sequence of scenes -- it let's you know that this is just a normal place and about normal people. Boys skinny dip in the river, girls push their dolls in baby buggies, kids play with hoops. Nothing special or unusual here.

Such a good answer and I think spot on. This is a normal town where boys skinny dip and it's as natural as anything. It introduces us to this town where everything is normal, a picture of a wholesome community filled with adults who apparently skinnydipped as children and grew up to be bankers and doctors and respected civic leaders.
It's a place where we soon are introduced to many people who also have human flaws but whose lives will be transformed by a girl who in spite of personal tragedy, brings joy and happiness to the entire town just by her positive outlook on life. I hate that the word "pollyanna" has come to mean people who see the world through rose colored glasses (or rainbow light and glass prisms as it were). Its the embittered, closed down, cold and sometimes cruel characters who need the reforming, not the child.
So the bare butt is a great way to open the movie. Its not a great film, it's a simple story with a straightforward message, told in stylized presentational form, but I like the message.

Yes. I've seen Women In Love and remember well the wrestling scene between Alan Bates and Oliver Reed. It's a great example for this discussion. I remember the first time I saw it I was surprised they got completely nude for the scene. They were both well known actors and, even though nudity was becoming more prevalent in films at that period it was still pretty unusual to see full nudity in films and it was a prolonged scene. It was not the first time I had seen nudity in a film but it was the first time I had seen full male nudity and watched two men wrestle nude. This film and this scene has been mentioned a couple of times in other threads in this group's film nudity discussions so it clearly left an impression on film goer's memories.

Thank you for sharing these links. They really warmed my heart and made it ache for a time long gone Im accepted male nudity between generations and in public appropriate places. Hopefully we can help educate the world more with a nude lifestyle that shows what it is intended for.
