I don't know about the rest of you, but i have a level of respect for an actor or actress who decides to bare all for a movie. I am not talking porn films but I am referring to movies where the setting requires nudity for it to make sense. A shower scene, a prison strip search scene, a medical setting. It might only be seconds on the screen that we see the actor in the buff, but that often means many takes and extended nude time
with a film crew around. I just rewatched 28 Days Later where the actor Irish actor Cillian Murphy is introduced to us lying hooked up to tubes and monitors flat on his back and bare head to toe. The initial camera angle is positioned directly above him leaving him fully exposed. What movie comes to mind to you where the actors bared all for the sake of a realistic storyline.?

I have even more respect for an actor who took on a role that didn't necessarily require nudity; but felt that an authentic depiction of the character did require nudity. That shows a dedication to the craft; as opposed to just doing a nude scene for critical acclaim or a bigger paycheck.

One example that just came to mind was Julie Delpy in "Before Midnight." The scene is an argument between her and Ethan Hawke after she'd started undressing. She decided that it would make no sense for her character to cover back up for an argument. So she decided to film the entire "argument scene" topless. That rang especially true for me since I have myself had arguments wit my wife while she was nude or topless; and in the "real world" women don't cover-up to argue.

Julie Delpy didn't do it for the money of for "clout." She did it because it just made sense. Respect.

I just remembered another scene. Rami Malek in Need For Speed. His extended strip down while quitting his corporate job would not have been the same had he kept his undies on. Full nudity was the only way to play it. Inside and outside on the street.

Richard Gere in American Gigolo. Apparently, the famous nude scene was unscripted, he decided that it would make more sense for the character to be nude, so he was.

I'd add Mary-Louise Parker in "Angels in America," where her character is standing nude in front of her husband, who is wrestling with his sexual identity, and calling him out on it. That scene would not have worked any other way.

My wife complained once that she was tired of seeing so many naked backsides in PG-13 movies. I told her that if she watched more R rated movies she would get a different view. She did not appreciate the humor.

I keep looking for that movie where nudity is treated as normal and natural. [quote] I did notice that they only showed the rear typical of PG-13 movies. I keep waiting for the moving in which at least one character is merely nude and no one bats an eye. "It's just Bob, he's nude, whatever."

I remember Jean m-Hugues Anglade was frequently nude in Betty Blue. He and Batrice Dalle were dating at the time, so the intimacy between their characters was real.

Here in Europe were less hung-up on nudity in cinema. The exception is the UK, but its marginally better than the rest of the Anglosphere with its Victorian prudishness.

Kevin Bacon in Wild Things. Matt Damon actually missed his mark but Kevin left it in the movie.

While I agree that full nude was the best way to do the scene, I doubt that he could have ever come back if he had stripped to his boxers and kissed one of the women on his way out!

Speaking of Kathy Bates reminded me of Failure to Launch with NFLs Terry Bradshaw and his naked room in the movie.

Well, this is my naked room. I mean, its my house. A man ought to be able to do whatever he wants to do in his own house. Wore a suit for forty years.

Another one that comes to mind is Midsommar (2019). According to IMDB, after the sex scene, Christian was supposed to run out in the robe he entered in but the actor suggested he run outside nude to appear more vulnerable.

Our younger son left for college shortly after I saw Failure to Launch. He said that we could do what I wanted with his room. I said jokingly that I was going to make it my naked room. He was not amused.

I totally agree. Most nudity in film is there to titillate or at least get enough attention to sell tickets. The recent growth of full frontal male nudity, though bringing some needed equality and fairness to film, is still not really always fair as many male actors are wearing prosthetic penises. When havefemale actors worn prosthetic breasts? Maybe they have and I and havent heard but I wonder if protecting male modesty or size image still shows we are a long way from normalizing nudity.

He felt he should be as vulnerable as any female is while nude

I wonder if they would have done the same thing,

Since most men are actually quite average down there, I would daresay most actors are too. And probably don't want to put it out there for that reason.
I remember Bernadette Peters once said she didn't want to do a nude scene because then the convo would turn toward her breasts rather than the movie.
Likewise, an actor takes his clothes off and it becomes about his penis.

It seems most of the guys who have done it have been more endowed, which is why you know they do it.

If they were average or smaller they wouldn't want that convo going around.
And being that the penis is the sex organ on a male, and is plain to see, I can see why men would be sensitive to it.
