Role Model
Return to DiscussionsGreat you were able to spread the word about our lifestyle and that your son was able to talk about it openly. So often we're constrained by concerns about others--employers, fellow workers, or teachers(sic). I find that many non-nudists are curious about nudity, some imagine all sorts of weird misconceptions. The more we're open about it with our everyday acquaintances the more they'll realize the normalcy of it and, hopefully, even join our ranks.
I'm a coach (high school cross country and track) and very few of my athletes know I'm a nudist. Those that do know have been ok with it but so far, it isn't for them. Yesterday, one of them jokingly said he'd go naked at today's pep rally and I said 'you guys are scared to look at yourselves naked in the mirror' and they kind of laughed at themselves and acknowledged that it's not too far from the truth. I did say that I have no problem with nudity but only a couple of kids heard me.
Thats awesome, man! I admire your openness. Im ecouraged by guys like you with that kind of positive attitude. Id love to hear a little more about how the conversation went, either with your son or yourself, and what the reaction was of the other guy. Thats excellent that your son is so comfortable and natural with nudity in your home that he can speak about it confidently.

The group's title is "Older Advising Younger/Vice Versa". You have just described a Vice Versa situation, i.e."Younger Advising Older". We've all learned something from your young son today:)
It's great when we have moments to positively and openly endorse the merits of being a nudist. Thank you for doing that. It's also important to remember the role models (and I had a hand full of supportive ones), who positively influenced our own nudist lives or helped us erase perceived wrong notions of what nude recreation is about. I feel very fortunate to have had those friends in my life and always try to "pay it forward" with folks who are nervous or wanting to experience the joy of social nudity.
a few of my work colleagues know that I am a nudist, and I have discussed several times with one or the other about nudity, I always notice that the men are more curious, women rather reserved or uninterested.
Not meaning to offend anyone but I think men are more comfortable being nude with other men. If you grew up playing sports or even taking a shower with your classmates after gym class was no big deal. Recently, two good male friends and my husband and I went on a long road trip to a beach house. We stayed one night at a motel. We'd never seen each other naked before but the one guy started undressing to take a shower. His husband was concerned that he was undressing in front of us and he just said, "We're all boys here." That was a great attitude to have and set the tone for the rest of the trip. Once we got to our destination there was a pool table at the house and we ended up playing pool naked together. It was a great time. We saw each other naked on and off for the rest of the trip.
