What are the barriers of trial to naturism and what are possible ways to lower few of them?
Return to DiscussionsI think many of us wish that nudism would be more popular and acceptable, so let's hear your thoughts what prevents people from trying it out and can we do something about it? I can name a few I can think of at the moment:
1- Fear (of being photographed, made fun of or attacked)
2- It might be illegal in some places, but even when it's not against local laws, some people might think it's illegal
3- Price of private clubs
I'd like you to expand on this and share your insight. Thanks
People equate nudism with sexuality or are concerned about others who do.
People feel shame about their body and want to hide it.
Men are afraid of erections popping up.
Women are afraid of being stared at or being treated disrespectfully.
Parents are afraid of child protective services being contacted.
People feel physically vulnerable - keys, cellphone, wallet.
People are conditioned to body shame. We are "supposed" to be embarrassed to be seen nude. So when someone isn't, it is against expectations.
My dog once encountered a life size bronze statue. At first he treated it the way he would a new person he was meeting; he sniffed its heels. But then he got all discombobulated because although it looked human, it didn't smell human. It was different from what he expected. People on the whole are similar.
