Any Roman baths in North America

Return to Discussions

Does anyone know of any baths in North America similar in design and purpose to the Roman baths of centuries past? I get the impression they were a staple of male society - a less stressful time when there was no stigma placed on guys who wanted to just hang out naked. But then I do stand to be corrected.

Thanks to anyone who has a story to share.

Korea is the new Rome. At least, in Los Angeles. We have numerous Korean spas that require nudity in gender specific"wet" areas (shower, massage, locker rooms, sauna, steam room, cold, warm and hot pools, plus relaxation room). The crystal, salt and clay dry saunas are in the co-ed section and require spa provided apparel.

We have a Korean style bathhouse here in New England at one of the casinos. With that said, the dry saunas are coed and require one to wear at least a bathing suit. The "baths" and wet sauna/steam room are segregated by gender and are basically used nude. Not perfect, but it is better than nothing.
