Return to Discussionsyeah don't think it will ever happen, when i joined the y back in the late 70's it was already segregated with female even thought a couple miles away there was a ywca so why were they at the ymca? haven't been in years but i would like to revisit the one i was a member at and see what has changed. i do remember back then when you finished exercising or swimming most men showered together in a gang shower ( no curtain or booth) but that may have changed.
I, like most of the men in the group, would love to have male nude swimming at the Y, but it will never happen in this country, because that discriminates both men & women who don't want segregation and/orto swim nude!At my Y men have to wear a swim suit in the whirlpool that is in the men's dressing room area! We also have individual showers with curtains and even two individual changing rooms for guys who change in the locker room!!Many guys do the towel dance and give dirty looks tothose of us who walk around naked between the lockers to the whirlpool to the showers, where ever! But I have to put on a swimsuit (or underwear)in the whirlpool & have to wear a towel in the dry sauna!
I think it would be unrealistic to expect that full time naked will ever become the norm again at the Y and similar institutions. But why not dedicated naked hours? It could be organized as separate hours on separate days for male-only, female-only and co-ed. That way everyone's needs would be satisfied. Textiles will have their hours and others who prefer to go naked can have their hours. The proportionality between the different time slots could be determined by demand. Just a thought ...
I agree with you men, we are never going to see nude swimming at a regular gym. We must enjoy the locker room and wet area nudity for as long as they allow that. There is a constant push at my gym to "cover up." I do enjoy a Korean spa in Chciago where it is gender specific and totally nude.
I don't think we will see it again in our life time. Use to go to the local Y where I grew up, but when the women ruin it for us guys, my father would not let me return to the Y. It was a great time when older men and younger men could swim free and nudity was never the problem. The guys would stand around talking with neighbors and friends while the kids would splash and play. Oh well those were the good old days.
i decided to do a google search of nude swimming at YMCA interesting reading and i even came upon our tn group and what we chat about here hopefully some not associated with nudism will entertain our views. i was also surprised we can also be viewed nude on that search but like most say once you post a picture on the web everyone can see it. back to the google search i guess i was hopeful to find a YMCA still practicing the tradition of nude swims but couldn't find any. i was also surprised when it came to high school nude swims that it was traditionally only the boys that swam nude but the girls were allowed to wear swimsuits. we didn't have a pool in the high school i attended in the 70's but even so i think nude swimming probably ceased in the early 60's in most school be interesting if some did continue into the 70's or even 80's. also read that at some of the coed swim meets that the boys wear nude and the girls were in swimwear i can't see this as possible maybe someone a little older can relate to this. amazing what you can find when you google it.
I was either too old to remember this or the Y in my area didn't do it. But I do remember nude swimming at a local pool in Prague, where I lived for 17 years. One night a week they'd allow nude swimming - for EVERYONE. And it was a good crowd each time. I wonder why local nudist groups don't petition a local gym or Y and ask for a private swim session once a week or maybe once a month?? I'm guessing because it would get reported to local media and a shit storm would incur. America! Home of the free. Blah blah blah
