Spa World chilling out on Tuesday
Return to DiscussionsSpaWorld visit recap
Tuesday has the possibility of being a turning point for SpaWorld (Centreville) or the beginning of a trend.
In the years I have patronized this spa, I have observed a shift from a carefree casual environment to one where the management seemed intent upon making the guests feel as though their every move was being managed. In the mens wet area this changed the vibe dramatically. There were times, for example, when the staff admonished guys in the Bade Pool and in the big jacuzzi from being too close to each other which facilitated conversation at a volume that enabled respect for the environment.
Tuesday had a sort of return to the traditional Korean spa vibe. There were about 12 guys when I was there about an hour after opening. The checkin staff were particularly solicitous. When I exited the locker area the staff who previously seemed to check me and the other guys out were nowhere to be found. The Bade pool which is where I go after showering was well subscribed including a number of guys who were side by side enjoying the hydrotherapy sets. Because the jets are well appreciated for their therapeutic results it is a natural choice and the limited stations available demand close proximity for optimal utilization. In the not too recent past, the staff would discourage that sort of proximity. I had some nice conversations with several guys I had met previously.
The big reason they had/have a staff member walk the wet room was the deter men from sexual activity. While I haven't seen it happen myself, I have multiple friends who have seen guys masturbating together and each other in the bade pool and hot tub. One of my friends was there when one guy got busted and the staff called the cops on him. Now I don't know how often this type of behavior is happening, but it's often enough that they found it necessary to have a staff member police the went room to keep an eye on the men. I haven't been since July but have plans to meet up with a couple friends there Nov 11th.
It's been over a year now, but I was there when they busted two guys for messing around in the bade pool. They weren't actually doing all that much (I'd been seeing them) maybe touching one another under the water, but from above just looked like they were physically close and being socially friendly. They didn't call the cops on them, but they did kick them out.
I was there alone that day and the guy they had walking around made me very uncomfortable. I was by myself but every time I looked up he was looking at me and then would glance away. Felt like I was under surveillance the whole time. I didn't go back for a year after that because it was just so uncomfortable, and I wasn't doing anything in appropriate or even WITH anyone to do something. Just made it hard to relax, which is what I was there to do.
Went two weeks ago for the first time since and it was a lot more relaxed and easy going.
