Stealthy Nudists
This is a group for those who don't have the necessary privacy, to practice nudism at home. Join and discuss how you privatized an area of the outdoors outdoorsy home to be nude. Open back yard, close neighbors, city homes, decks in full view of the street..
Shade tents....best for getting sun, not "being seen" and being able to see people headed your way...

Usually I'm in a beach chair that reclines, or on a towel on the ground. I'm not embarrassed by being seen, but I am very sensitive to people not seeing if that's something they'd rather not see.
A perfect example for this, a stretch of beach where walkers can approach from either side, but not from behind. You can see them coming, but they can see you from a good distance away. If you can see them as they approach, but they can't see you, you can put something over your lap once they're close enough.
Another example, perched on a ridge. People can walk past from either side, but if you're at the edge, nobody will walk in front. You can be more relaxed.
This is NOT a sales pitch. Here are some that I'm considering. You'll have to search for them as I'd rather not post URLs:
Quest Quick Draw Portable Sun Shelter
Coleman Hatteras Fast Pitch Shade
SunShack Pop Up Beach Shade
Pacific Breeze Easy Up Beach Tent
As long as you don't live on the equator, you should be able to get sun in these "shade" tents if the opening faces the sun. That's my though, anyway. Another benefit is that blocking the wind allows you to lie out in temps from 45F and up and still be comfortable. In hot weather, allowing a cross breeze is a must. Thoughts?
You talk here and in other posts about being sensitive to people that would rather not see you nude. I agree with that to a point but if you in an area such as a nude beach where nudity is acceptable or in your own backyard minding your own business then its their issue. Hiding just perpetuates the idea that there is something wrong with it.
I agree that hiding perpetuates the idea that nudity is bad. That's not what Im talking about though.
I didn't say I need this for when I'm on a nude beach.
Im talking about an unofficial nude beach (or a lightly used textile beach), where it is customary (and I believe respectful) to cover your genitals when textiles walk past, as it is actually unlawful to be nude in public in those places. The laws are usually written to state something like it being "unlawful to expose one's genitals to another person" but the act of being naked, but not being seen naked, is not unlawful.
As for my own backyard, yes it is my business. However, I have about eight houses that can all see over my fence into my backyard, which means their children can see into my yard as well and I'm sure their parents would be none too pleased if I were to lie out like that. Legally, I can lie in my backyard nude as long as passersby cannot see me they intentionally peer over the fence. Unfortunately, these houses are two stories, which means they can easily see over my fence without specifically trying to and I am not protected by that law.
I wasn't trying to start a philosophical debate about whether such a tent is needed or not. In some cases, it is needed, even for me. On a nude beach, I have no need for this. I will walk around nude, chat with people and have a very relaxing time.
I dont have a nude beach near me. I do have an unofficial spot can be used when all the foliage is in, but is not used when we are not protected by the leaves on the trees. Shade tent like this would allow usage of this area before the leaves come back in. Additionally, it would also allow for sitting in the sun when camping with some people that are not nudists. They do know I'm a nudist, and are respectful of that, so setting up a tent like this would allow me to lay out that putting myself on display for people who dont want to see. Anyone that wants to can come join me. Once everyone wants to join, then there is no longer a need for the shade tent...on that particular camping trip.
Sorry I missed that you were talking about beaches other than official nude ones. I can see the idea is not bad in that situation.
I too have two story homes that have full view of our backyard but years ago we talked to the neighbors (we have almost no turnover in our neighborhood) and told them we were not shy and they might see more than would be expected. They all were fine with it and do not care. I work in and enjoy the backyard nude on an almost daily basis. Also here the indecency law is nude AND lewd, not just nude.
i like the thought of a shade so u have a full view. i once heard if people have time to see u from a distance they are more likely to avoid before being offened.
Thanks. I wouldn't have a problem in your neighborhood. I'd likely end up with those neighbors popping over if they saw me as I'd offer a standing invitation to come over if they want to.
Alas, we're within about 1/4 mile of a k-8 school, so most of our neighbors have kids, like I do. My kids are comfortable as mini nudists (might change when puberty hits) but I have to defer to the likely concerns of multiple neighbors (at least 1/2 with young children) and find other ways, which I do.
My next house will not have these issues. I will have a few acres, with trees, and my friends will be welcome to join us. For now...oh well.

I think this is true. I've experienced it. My MO (on unofficial nude spots) is to set up past the first nudist. That way, if a walker approaches and keeps walking past the nudist (especially if I see them say hi to the nudist), by the time they get to me I know all is well. I will still cover if they have children with them. If they adjust course to avoid that nudist, they never come near me. when I've been by myself, I know they can see me from a distance and can tell I'm nude, but can't actually see anything, that's OK. They adjust course and I have also not violated the letter of the law.
We have a nudity ban here. That means we can be ticketed for showing our genitals to another person. That means we can put shorts on our laps, but don't have to actually have the shorts on. That's the local law. There is a state indecency law where the "lewd" part comes into play. I could successfully defend against that charge, as there will never be lewd behavior from me. The problem is that a visit by the wrong police officer and I would have to defend myself in court. Damage already done, even though I'll successfully defend myself. That's the real threat. We can argue all we want that nude is not lewd, but once you're charged, you can lose your job with just that. You also have to shell out money to hire an attorney to defend yourself. You're also in the newspaper, for all the parents of your kids' classmates to see and all of a sudden no kids show up to your birthday party, or they stop playing with you at school, or they call you names.
I believe nude is not lewd, strongly. That belief does not protect us against those that are self repressed.

Shorter response...I think a shade that has mesh on the sides, but not all the way to the ground. That way, you can sit in a chair and see out the sides, but approaching people can't see your lower body. That also promotes airflow, which can help cool you and also make it less enticing for flies and mosquitoes that like the shelter from the wind and biting you in the butt cheeks.
