Posted are serial photos that illustrate the beginning and ending posture of each of the forms or routines practiced in Tai Chi. This basic posture should be practiced in front of a full length mirror. Feet are flat, and rooted to the floor. Knees are slightly flexed so as absorb a blow, back is relaxed and slightly rounded, and the shoulders also slightly rounded. The raising of the arms coincide with the greater flexing of the knees. Few arm and hand movements rise above the shoulder. Breathing is coordinated with the posture, slowly inhaling as the arms raise, and slowly exhaling as the arms drop. Tia Chi is seamless, fluid and each posture evolves into the next element. The eyes are in an unfocused gaze, gathering surrounding visual information. The Dan Tien serves as the primary energy vault or center, and as a martial art the ultimate power for punches and kicks emanates from this site.
