Tanning season is getting closer
Return to DiscussionsHow many of you tan outdoors often?
Do you prefer oil ? or lotion?
Don't they smell wonderful? We have a very large collection of them, usually at the beginning of spring we will buy at least 10 bottles of our favorite ones, we divide them up and take several to our place at the resort and keep the rest at home.
We enjoy laying on our deck and in the pool, several years ago we bought several of the compressed foam type rafts and they are indeed worth every cent. plus its the only way we are comfortable laying so long on our stomachs tanning our butts.
anyway share your thoughts on this passion if you please

We try as often as we can. We have a screen enclosure over our pool. Supposedly that gives an SPF 30 protection, so we never use anything when we are at our pool. I try to use nothing more than SPF 30 when we are at the resort or beach. Want to get some color going.
This is the first year I haven't keep my tan up through the winter using a tanning bed. Just trying to cut cost wherever I can mostly and secondly the place I went to closed up and the next tanning bed place is a further away and not convenient to me.
Looking forward to summer again. I will start getting acclimated again slowly with the spring sun. It is always best to start early in the season and a little at a time. Once I've got some color going I will then make sure I have SPF 30 on my face, shoulders, back and arms every time I am in the sun for more than a few minutes.

All our tanning is outdoors. My wife used tanning beds at a salon a few times but that was it. We used to sunbake quite a bit but she got restless sooner than I and I used to be able to lay in the sun for hours! When we were first married and right after I got on the fire dept., I had days off during the week and my wife would be working. I'd get home around 9 am in the morning, after working a 24 or 48 hr shift and grab a beach chair, large towel and the Baby Oil and head out to the backyard. I would bake for hours! She'd get home, I'd make dinner, she'd get the kids cleaned up and help with homework and I'd go out and catch the last hour or so of Summer sunlight!
She would join me as much as she could but stopped after having some pre cancerous spots removed. Nowadays, I will still sunbake but she's usually under an umbrella or a shady tree. I still use oils but she prefers high SPF lotions. Best part is that we apply the oils and lotions to one another. We both get a nice even coat ! :D
