The process of giving up animal products
Return to DiscussionsI gave up meat way earlier than other things taken from animals, and when I knew of issues there are to animals in animal agriculture and to wildlife, environments, and use of resources, I gave up eggs and dairy products including cheese, thinking I could find vegan cheese, which I had tried at a pizza place and thought fine for that there, but before I ever did find any, I found hummus, and loved it so much I started using it with many things. And then I didn't miss cheese at all, and it was a long time before I tried vegan cheeze, Daiya, and still I don't use it often with things anyway, while I load up on hummus. I sometimes now try seitan, but just lately and not very much. I don't use faux meats or things, really. There are just habits we have that we can overcome more easily than we think. I tried nutritional yeast, but unlike for others I heard from it did not do anything for me, I like hummus much more, and I stopped getting it.
