The Paleo and other "low carb" diets are popular. This type of a diet is good in so far as the diet includes fruits and vegetables, which, by the way, do have "carbs." Leaving out beans and grains leaves holes in the nutrient content, though. The biggest hole is calcium. In my own analysis of a Paleo diet, using my Diet Doctor, I found only 350 mg of calcium in one day. We need more to keep our bones and teeth healthy and strong, the RDA is 1000-1200 mg. When you factor in the overdose of protein on this diet, the calcium intake becomes -240. Every day on the diet bones are being depleted of calcium. But, that is what you get when an anthropologist designs a diet! - - Steve Blake
