How Many WNBR Have You Participated?
Return to DiscussionsJust one. I rode in my first WNBRin Portland this month. It was an amazing experience. Liberating. There were some 10,000 of us, the weather was perfect, and I'm pretty sure I laughed the whole ride.I went with two friends, and it was a first ride for both of them, too. I'm sure I'll ride next year, and I have another friend who wants to join us.
I have had the pleasure of riding in the last 3 events in Columbus,
Ohio. Each year has had a lot more riders than the previous year.
Last year (June 2015) a heavy rainstorm stopped just a little
before the ride. (Got lucky there, I guess, unless you like riding
in the rain) I loved the reception of the State University
crowd (many cheers and hand slaps while riding down some of the
main streets). Every year I attended was at night ... a little cool
but still enjoyable as were the all-night parties after the rides,
but I would like to try a daytime ride sometime as well.
Maybe Columbus would allow some random naked bike riding on
the city bike trails during the day (all day) before the WNBR... We
could claim it was to raise awareness for the WNBR issues (like
bike safety) before the main event that night. ... Do you
think there would be any chance of THAT happening? :-))
---- UPDATE: 01.02.16 - after reviewing some pictures from
the Columbus rides, I think I have been to at least 5 WNBR events,
there. I've seen my self in 1 Utube video and one good picture from
2014. I might post a copy of it later but first, I guess I
should cover up some of the other faces, for legal

As mentioned in a previous comment, I wanted to attend a daytime
ride sometime. There was a daytime ride in Lexington KY in
2012, but I could not make that one. Maybe I was lucky ... Reviewing the WNBR archives today, I noticed that only 30
riders participated in that event, and 2 of them were arrested ,
for no apparent reason, by the local police. It was a perfectly
orderly ride, and almost completed, when 2 naked guys were stopped
and charged with, the usual, indecent exposure complaint. :-/
