A "movement" to make nudity allowed at johnson beach

Return to Discussions

I am new to the area so i dont really know the history surrounding johnson beach and what has been done to try and make it an official nude beach. I do know that it is technically not leagal and they closed it to camping due to the messes people leave behind. We should try to organize a fairly large nude get together on johnson beach this summer and let the rangers and everyone know, we can even put up a sign. The idea is to make it sort of a stand in or protest. I am not a lawyer but from what i understand the authorities cant get us for being naked as part of a protest because it is part of our freedom of expression. Then we all spend the night and have a good time and clean up the beach. The goal is to show the support and demand that nudity be allowed at the far end of johnson, and demonstrate that the beach will be better off and no one will be upset by it because we are secluded enough and if someone comes wondering by there will be a sign to warn them of the nude beach goers ahead. Another possible outcome is a deal to where as long as there are some nudists caring for and cleaning the beach mabye once a month then they will allow nudity, or atleast turn a blind eye. Mabye i am over simplifying things are mabye this has allready been done before. Let me know what you all think and mabye we can get something started. I sont know where else to go to try and rally a group so this has been my only post for this "movement" we will call it....

RE:A "movement" to make nudity allowed at johnson beach

There is a petition about making Johnson clothing optional. I have corresponded with the petition author about organizing a beach clean up to start. I would think that a demonstration might not be a great starting point. There is information about the positive economic impact of clothing optional beaches in south Florida that would be a supportable proposition. I like the idea of forming a Beach Ambassador group similar to the Haulover group. We would keep the area debris free and report inappropriate activity to the Rangers. The inappropriate activity is the major objection from locals. We are part time residents of Pensacola and should be there more often as summer approaches.

I did visit the Dog Park area, a one mile strip at Pensacola Beach in February. I found it ironic that dogs get their own mile and naturists get arrested.
