Return to DiscussionsThere are two remaining access points to drive onto the beach.
The first is a paid access. It has facilities. Parking lot, sheltered picnic tables, restrooms. $12
The second is no longer maned. Free access. You need 4 wheel drive to get through the deep dry sand at the entrance.
We drove about 20 miles up the beach.
There was a nude party set up beyond UFO beach. Several nude drunks obstructing traffic on New Years Day.
We did not encounter any children that far north.
I enjoyed sunbathing December 30, 2025 and January 1, 2026.
Both County Campgrounds on the south end were closed for renovation.
We encountered a couple of van campers stuck in the deep sand. 4 wheel drive is highly recommended.
Watch the tide schedule to avoid getting pushed up into the deep sand by advancing water.
Close to the access points is crowded. Drive a few miles for occasional visitors. Everyone spaces themselves out a lot. Lots of space. Drive beyond UFO beach for relative isolation.
You will know UFO beach when you see it!
There were no beach patrols north of UFO beach. Come prepared to be independent.
Fishing, reading, sunbathing, partying
My wife is mobility impaired. We drove slow in our 4 wheel drive SUV. We stopped frequently for gathering shells or landscape photography was great. Wife wore clothes. I wore nothing is some places.
Naturally private places among the dunes. Find a spot with no foot prints. Unlikely you will be disturbed. Great for beginners or lovers. Maybe wife will join me sunbathing next time.
Don't try in a 2 wheel drive vehicle. Prepare to dig yourself out if you have "All wheel drive."
4 wheel drive works well. Some skill required, but easily learned.
