De Anza is falling from poor business skills!
Return to DiscussionsDe Anza Springs resort is a sad story of how some rich New York non business people who bought a plot of land that was some leftover plot formally owned by thousand trails but suffered the harsh flooding from a hurricane that came North up the Baja Sea of Cortez into Southern California doing widespread destruction. The new owners soon opened what was left of the Thousand Trails rubble and stated the area is to become a clothing optional resort, much to the wishes of thousands of Southern California Nudist born people, and many who discovered their hidden nudist inner selves. Several nudist people came and soon it was up in the hundreds, as nudists volunteered to work night and day to develop the park along with their new homes. The new owners were busy patting each other on the back of how smart they were and that all the hard work was being done almost free, and how happy that made them as they collected money from rent and visitors as well.
The park grew and grew as new things developed from all the free hard work of nudist residents and soon the owners said to them selves this place is worth a lot more than we have been charging, and so they raised the rent and charged more for visitors as well as membership and amenities, and oh yes they did supply free hotdogs and soda during some of the bigger group projects. As time went on nudist residents took note of how much more they volunteered to do and how it continually caused the owners to raise rents and costs. Residents gathered in groups and discussed the problem and decided to stop volunteering for all the free work as it was getting way out of hand. The owners soon found they had to take money of their own pockets to pay for workers, the owners were raged and decided the residents have now became their opposition as they failed to volunteer to work for free. Soon the owners became vindictive and raised rents and added many erroneous charges on nudists residents to offset the cost to pay labors, as the owners developed a disdain for nudists and joined others in the surrounding town who look negatively towards nudists.
The owners even bought another failing business in town and found workers did not come free, they leaned more on funds from the nudist resort to pay to developed the business in town. Soon the entire town had come to know the lack of business skills the owners had as well as their poor repore with former workers, as well as contractors who regretted doing business with the owners. Today the owners are allowing any and all who have money to come in and regarettingly now are going down the same slippery slope of the former Swallows nudist resort that ended up in flames not far away in San Diego County. Now thousands of nudists are wishing and hoping a new clothing optional place would open in San Diego County as a place with people with competent business management skills remains a dream and a great business opportunity for honest caring investors. San Diego has just as many Nudists as Florida and to the right business minded people San Diego is a true Mecca for this kind of business.
Not wanting to get argumentive, because it really seems to me that the original post creating this topic was written by someone with some sort of chip on their shoulder. I have been to De Anna many times over the past five years. I now know Dave and Helen (the owners) personally and just do not see it the same as Rosa. Dave is always very accommodating, promoting nude activities through AANR and in general a very competent owner operator. Its my understanding that they have made investments in the local economy. And to make money and to keep investing that money just because the love ripping people off makes no sense. I have a good friend that has wintered there for many years, has a trailer there and loves going back. Many of the staff have been there for years. Are all of these signs of someone just investing money in an enterprise they are trying to just drive it into failure?
I know I will keep returning to De Anna Springs for a great, enjoyable nude vacation. I have to take the different trail here and commend the owners and staff of this resort for a job well done.
We have to agree with Gilan and Woody. While we've never lived there and don't know about the day-to-day goings on for residents, we have visited many times over the last ten years. We also know the owners and they've always been professional and accommodating in their management of DeAnza, in our opinion. As far as a visitor goes, DeAnza is one the nicest nudist resorts in Southern California and we highly recommend it!
Hmm. Well I have not been to De Anza in quite a few years so I beg forgiveness for possible ignorance (as in lack of knowledge). But while a gold seal member at Glen Eden, I know De Anza hosted many AANR festivals there and always felt that the resort was in the top ten in the country in regards to promoting our lifestyle. Dont care for all of those damn goat heads in the grass when playing volleyball, but the rest of the grounds were wonderful. If what the original poster says is true, than I am sure the owners will be negatively impacted and hopefully correct their ways. One can not survive in business, any business, treating their customers wrong. The fact that it has been three years since the original post suggest that they have got their act together ... or there was nothing wrong with it to begin with. Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Old Old news! Read on for 2022 information!
The resort is under new ownership and management and the difference is night and day. Areas are cleaned up. repairs and improvements are being made. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. It is well worth a visit for anyone new for any who may have been put off by the decline mentioned in the original post. it is worth your time to check it out now.
Our last visit to DeAnza Springs Resort was just before Covid and the lockdown. It's a great place to visit and stay. My wife loves the naked hiking. It's a desert nudist resort. It can be considered rustic by other clubs and resort standards but it's not a concrete jungle. It's clean, well maintained. Some repairs and updating would be a nice addition but we like it just fine and think it's being run and managed well.
