Healthy reasons to be a naturist in a locker room

Reduced Body Shame: Communal nudity in non-sexual environments like locker rooms helps de-sexualize the human form. This practice can serve as a form of exposure therapy, helping individuals move past irrational fears of nudity.

I see nudity in the men's locker room as a way to support equality. Women have fought for - and received - equal rights with men. Men need to claim the same. We have the right to be around other men, clothed or naked, without mockery or inference that it's for sexual reasons or behaviors. People use homophobia to control and diminish men. This is wrong. Men need to meet up for meals, coffee or drinks in a lot more contexts than to discuss football or be in a Bible study if you're religious. Throughout history men have always been naked together across all social classes, sexualities and other demographics. Nude spaces are the great equalizer. We need them.

To me, a locker room has always been a place to change clothes and shower after working out. In 6th grade we were required to take a shower after PE class and sports. The shower was an open room with multiple shower heads. For those whose parents were too shy (or ignorant) to tell their sons that they would get hair around their dick and their body would stink when they sweated, we learned that in health class. I was raised as a nudist, but this was the first time most of the boys had ever seen anyone else naked. There were dicks of all shapes, sizes and colors. I was 2 years into puberty with good dick growth, but many of my peers were prepubescent with hairless nubs. Sure there was some dick "teasing" but nothing serious. I can't understand why boys, or men, are shy about being nude in a place where nudity is basically necessary for proper hygiene

To be a naturist in the locker room can be an experience that allows you to be free of been comfortable with self however some will take it to be an invitation for activities that should not happen in the locker room. Many men are shy about their bodies and won't feel comfortable around nude men. Usually it's something that clearly most men take been nude as an opportunity to be sexual and to show off what they have.

RE:Healthy reasons to be a naturist in a locker room

My first introduction to a locker room was in 1980. I was just 10 years old and starting Jr. High. We did a tour of the school before we attended and seeing the boys locker room was exciting to me. The first thing that hit me was the smell of it. It was different, there was no one using it when we did the tour all of the boys were out doing PE class at the time. Seeing all of the lockers and the showers got me excited to want to try it out. I can recall the look on some of the boys faces when they told us that we had to undress and shower after PE class. Pure dread and horror lol. From that time forward I have visited many men's locker rooms and I have always loved the atmosphere in them. Men all men, some naked, some getting dressed or undressed. Some men using the showers or at the sinks shaving naked without shame or a care in the world. I loved that kind of atmosphere, an all male environment. A man can be himself for a while and not have to worry about always being covered up unless he wanted to. As a long time nudist, I'm never shy to get naked in a locker room and it's always wonderful to see other men who are the same. When I'm at the spa I visit it's like you can almost tell what men are the nudist and what men aren't. Seeing a man's body with no tan lines is a good indication of being a nudist or if he puts a towel down before having a seat. I've seen a lot of men not do that and I say to myself "I guess they are not nudist" But to each his own. We men need that space and time to and for ourselves.

Based on my long history of nude open shower and normal nude changing at my locker ( starting in 7th grade) I still am comfortable that way in my small local gym. Im the outlier for sure, but just tonight I noticed a guy who I see fairly regularly appear more comfortably nude drying off and changing. It was nice to see. You just have to keep demonstrating normal nudity in a locker room. It can change attitudes.

RE:Healthy reasons to be a naturist in a locker room

Men's locker rooms were created as a space for men to change, shower, shave - all the things they needed to do on a daily basis - after working out at the gym. Nudity is required for a proper shower (and to avoid having to carry wet underwear out of the locker room). The thought was always that men are anatomically the same, so there was no need for individual privacy. Expense was also an issue - it's a LOT more expensive to create private environments inside a public venue (for example private shower stalls or rooms inside a locker room) than to have common facilities. There was no need when locker rooms were created for men to be modest and there is no need now. In fact, requiring men to cover up is a nuisance - it consumes more time and is inefficient for men who are in a hurry to get to work, etc. Doing this to assuage the sensibilities of men who have never seen another penis in person is absolutely silly and unwarranted.
