What the heck is authentic, and why is the word, and its derivatives, so misused here?

I read so many profiles that say they are living their authentic selves, seeking authenticity, or that nudism is authentic. What the heck do they mean?

The irony is that the vast percentage of "people" on here are liars, fake, bots, and oh so many con artists. When I finally meet someone who is real, and yes, authentic, they rarely have that word in their profile.

It is so easy to lie and pretend when hiding behind the anonymity of a keyboard and screen. In my experience, a true nudist is who they are all the time. I learned long ago that we generally cannot be who we are not when we are naked. So why be authentic? Why seek authenticity?

Try being honest. Try being real. Try being a genuine person. And for gosh sake, quit trying to be impressive using a word you clearly have no idea what it means.

Asking the users who use words like "authentic" and "authenticity", to "real" in their profiles, would be a difficult task for them, since most of them aren't real. I believe it's a common phrase generated by the current algorithm used by bots and trolls that this site has been attracting. I usually just flag them as fakes, block them and move on.

"Inconceivable!"

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Definitely food for thought here...

I was at a nudist resort last weekend, setting up a large tent. I wore blue jeans to save my knees, since I was kneeling a lot to pound in tent stakes. When I finished setting up the tent, I took off my clothes and thought "Yes, this is really a better state to be in." It's not that I thought I was being "fake" by having clothes on when it was appropriate to do so, but I felt that once the work was done, it no longer made sense to have clothes on.

Similarly, when I get home from shopping and such, I want to shuck my clothes right away.

It's easy to think of yourself as "authentic" when you're in a situation where you are what you want to be, doing what you want to do, and clothing isn't necessary. When it comes to clothing, being nude is the closest thing to authenticity that we can get... there's no ornamentation, nothing concealed.
