Take This High School Exit Exam
I came across the suggested new High School Exit Exam (for fun folks) below and I thought I would see how many would take a stab at answering them. Maybe one week later, I would list the answers and each person answering could test their Expert knowledge. I am sure everyone knows some of the answers! I would suspect that anyone answering all questions correctly must have Taken the test before or really did some researching to get them! In checking your answers, you must be aware that it is possible that others may also be aware of your knowledge of the questions by your answers.
"In answering the questions, I would suggest using Quote for quick reference when posting, but a simple numbered 1-10 with each answer corresponding with the correct number is all that is needed. In one week, I will post the answers for them for each individual to check themselves! After one week, Everyone should have found most or all of the correct answers with research! Let's see how this will go!

Subject: New High School Exit Exam
(Passing requires 4 correct answers supposedly,,,not sure how this was established!)
1) How long did the Hundred Years' War last?
2) Which country makes Panama hats?
3) From which animal do we get cat gut?
4) In which month do Russians celebrate the October Revolution?
5) What is a camel's hair brush made of?

7) What was King George VI's first name?
8) What color is a purple finch?
9) Where are Chinese gooseberries from?
10) What is the color of the black box in a commercial airplane?
I'm not surprised. Consider this:
1) How long did the Hundred Years' War last? At last count, it had lasted 116 years. There just happened to be periods of peace along the way.
2) Which country makes Panama hats? Would you believe Ecuador?
3) From which animal do we get cat gut? Despite the name, this type of cord has never been made from the guts of cats.
4) In which month do Russians celebrate the October Revolution? It depends on which calendar you use. Thearmed insurrection in Petrogradis said to have occured onOctober 25, 1917, but that's reckoning by theOld Style Julian Calendar. This actually corresponds toNovember 7,1917 on the Gregorian Calendar.
5) What is a camel's hair brush made of? This is a trick question. Do they mean the brush to use on camel hair? Or do they mean a brush made of camel hair? Cheaper hair for paint brushes is sometimes called camel hair, but it does not come from camels.
6) The Canary Islands in the Pacific are named after what animal? The name Islas Canarias is likely derived from the Latin term Insula Canaria, meaning "Island of the Dogs". (EDIT after the fact: The Canary Islands are NOT in the Pacific. See further down.)
7) What was King George VI's first name? Actually, his first name was Albert. His given names were Albert Frederick Arthur George.
8) What color is a purple finch? The female is brown, the male is red. Neither is purple.
9) Where are Chinese gooseberries from? Actually, Chinese gooseberries can be found in China. However, they are produced more abundantly in other countries, most notably New Zealand where its more modern name, the kiwi, originated.
10) What is the color of the black box in a commercial airplane? Flight recorders are most often red.
Saw this test or one similar to it a few years back. It would scare you how many American high school students couldn't get a 90 or higher?
Actuallythe test I sawhad the answers in the questions. It still was failed by the majority of the high school students who took the test.
As an ex-air force flight control technician, I can tell you that airliner "black" boxes are called "black" because either the electronics is unknown to all but the manufacturer or the recoverer - OR - that the information is unknown to any but the reader - OR - both. There were several "black" boxes that I was aware of on every aircraft that I worked on in the air force. Some were weapons control, flight control, and a few other systems.
