Does they really think you can blow a plane with a 2 cc butane lighter???
Well , no.
But take an aerosol can, a lighter and you have a pretty effective weapon to burn half the plane with it.( at 20.000 feet , very long time till the fire departments get there )
Turns out that was Henry Waxman's anti-smoking campaign. The TSA finally petitioned congress to allow them to look for true hazzards and not be the defacto smoking police. That's when that silly lighter ban went away.

The future of safe air travel: Germany launches nude airline

This reminds me of the New Zealand airline which had a safety video with all participants naked except for body paint which made it LOOK like they were in uniform. Imagine what the video would be like if it was aimed at naked PASSENGERS.
